Safety Policy
Scope & Applicability
This Policy applies to Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 spaces both digital and physical. If you are being harassed or feel unsafe outside our spaces, we still want to know about it.
We will take all good-faith issues raised seriously. This includes safety issues outside our spaces and harassment that took place at any point in time. If you are being harassed by a volunteer or organiser of Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 inside or outside our spaces we want to know about it.
Safety Team
Contact
All organiser and volunteers of the event act as the Safety Team, and you can contact anyone with an organiser and volunteer badge over safety concerns or breaches of the Code of Conduct.
Role
The Safety Team are Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteers responsible for taking, investigating and resolving safety and Code of Conduct issues. These volunteers have been chosen due to supporting qualities of judgement and maturity.
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 expects all attendees to be respectful and patient with Safety Team volunteers in the course of their duties.
Safety Team Discretion
In order to protect volunteers from abuse and burnout, the Safety Team reserve the right to dismiss any report believed to have been made in bad faith. Reports intended to silence legitimate criticism may be deleted without response.
Confidentiality
The Safety Team will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse. At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them, if we believe that doing so will increase the safety of Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 members or the general public.
We will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.
Consequences
Participants asked by a Safety Team member to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
If you engage in harassing behaviour, the Safety Team may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including issuing a temporary or permanent ban from all Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 spaces. If you are removed from the event due to a Code of Conduct violation, you will not be entitled to a refund.
The Safety Team reserves the right to exclude people from Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 based on their past behaviour, including behaviour outside Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 spaces and behaviour towards people who are not in Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023.
COVID-19 Policy
Attendee & Volunteer Testing
Participants will be asked to provide photographic evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result in the prior 24hrs during on-site registration. Volunteers will use the file creation time of your photo as the time of your test.
Note: There is no requirement to attend a GP Clinic or Testing Station for these tests. A personal test (such as a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT)) will be sufficient.
Suspected or confirmed COVID
If you feel unwell or test positive for COVID-19 before the event, do not attend. Email or contact the organisers and we will arrange for a refund.
If you feel unwell during the event, please pack up your things and leave the venue. Let one of the organisers know and we will arrange for a refund.
You are free to continue attending from home and coordinating with your team over Discord, if you feel well enough to do so.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
We recommend that attendees:
- Wear masks where possible
- Use hand sanitiser often
- Wash hands often
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 will have limited masks and hand sanitiser available on-site at the registration desk during on-site events.
Compliance with Government Advice
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 follows the current government advice on COVID-19.
You can refer to your local government website for the current policies.
Fire Exits
Please refer to the on-site maps at event venue on arrival for the location of the fire exits and evacuation points.
Further guidance will be provided during the housekeeping part of the opening presentations.
Cable Management & Taping
If you're running cables for your setup, networking or otherwise, it's important that cables are managed tidily under desks. This is to avoid tripping on or pulling on cables when moving about the event site.
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 attendees are expected to keep their spaces and equipment in a tidy and safe state. Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteers may ask attendees to make changes if they feel it represents a safety issue.
If you need to run cables of any kind through walkways of any kind (anywhere a person may walk) please let at Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteer know. They will come and tape down cables for you.
Security of Belongings
If you have concerns about the security of your belongings, those of {Event name} or the venue please alert a Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteer. This may be because you believe something has been stolen or damaged. volunteers will provide what support or advice they are able within the limits of their roles.
While Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 organisers and volunteers aim to provide a safe and secure environment for attendees, Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 takes no responsibility for the security of participants belongings, either physical or digital.
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 attendees are responsible for the security of all personal belongings both digital and physical during Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 events.
First Aid
First Aid Kits will be stocked and provided at Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 event sites by the venue owners. In the case of an emergency requiring First Aid, please have one person remain with the injured person and have a second person alert a {Event name} volunteer.
Note: If it is a critical emergency, call 000 immediately.
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteers are not able to administer medications to Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteers or attendees unless previous arrangements have been made with Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023, agreed and recorded.
In the case of medical emergencies Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteers may ask the effected person to seek qualified medical attention. Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteers will call 000 for an Ambulance if they believe the first aid requirement to be an emergency. Any costs incurred by Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 from emergency medical attention will be referred to the effected person.
Drugs & Alcohol
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 event sites are drug and alcohol free spaces. This is to ensure the event space remains comfortable, safe and accessible for attendees of all ages.
Attendees found consuming or under the influence of drugs or alcohol within Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 event spaces will be asked to leave the space for the remainder of the event.
Food Safety & Allergies
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 may provide attendees and/or volunteers. While arranging catering Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 aims to provide for as many dietary requirements as possible, and to label catering appropriately. This will allow Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 attendees to make informed decisions.
In most circumstances Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 aims to provide vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options. If foods are unlabeled or you have a concern please ask a Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 volunteer.
Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 requires all on-site attendees to disclose specific allergy-based catering needs at least 3 days (72hrs) prior to the first day of the event. All requests will be seriously considered within Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 resources.
Note: Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 makes no guarantees of being able to cater to your dietary requirements, or that foods are free from allergens or cross-contamination (such as nuts, dairy, gluten or meats). If you have disclosed a dietary requirement and Melbourne Global Game Jam 2023 is unable to meet it, you will be informed as soon as possible to allow you to make other arrangements.
